CCTV and Access Control

CCTV and Access control for B&Q the UK's largest home improvement and garden centre retailer's head offices in Southampton

THE BRIEF
CSS were invited to tender along with five other organisations for the design, supply and installation of a CCTV system with digital recording facilities for B&Q's head office estate of six buildings. The CCTV was to be connected over the client's wide area network so that in addition to on site static guarding, all sites could be remotely monitored from a central site. In addition access control using smart card technology was required to control the movement of all staff. B&Q were looking for the latest in technology and as a responsible employer wanted to ensure that all necessary security measures had been taken.

THE SOLUTION
CSS in partnership with B&Q's facilities department, designed a hi tech solution using high speed dome cameras and some fixed cameras for each site and connected them to high specification network video recorders all linked via the clients wide area network. External detection units were also fitted to give additional automated control of the dome cameras, so that the domes respond to movement and ensure that all traffic and persons entering and leaving the sites are recorded. Viewing and reviewing of images is achievable from any desktop PC and by dialing into the clients network from a remote site, giving both security guards and the client the ability to control all site domes via the software installed on the clients computers. The access control system uses the latest Legic technology, which will allow the client to use the same cards for future applications such as cashless vending and time and attendance when required. The idea was to give the latest technology today to ensure longevity of the system.

THE CLIENTS COMMENTS
"CSS listened to all our requirements and through their obvious in house expertise where able to demonstrate to B&Q that they were clearly capable of providing the latest technology to meet with our requirements. Since September the 11th many businesses are ensuring that security is not just operational but is capable of protecting ones assets and in turn raise staff confidence regarding the security of their workplace.
CSS have worked closely with us through a very complex installation and provided us with support at all times."
